From Burn Table Operator to Maintenance Manager, Delta Steel is proud to recognize Johnny Smith as one of our dedicated Career Climbers. His journey within our company is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Johnny’s career at Delta Steel began in 2018 as a Burn Table Operator in Cedar Hill. Over the years, he has steadily progressed through various roles, including Burning Supervisor, Shift Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor. His experience demonstrates the exceptional skills and leadership qualities he possesses, traits he no doubt picked up during his past and present military career with the Army National Guard.

From Burn Lead to Shift Supervisor, and ultimately to Maintenance Manager, Johnny has consistently exceeded expectations and contributed significantly to the company’s success. Johnny’s training experience was a valuable stepping stone in his career. Despite a relatively short training period, he quickly adapted to his new responsibilities and demonstrated a natural aptitude for learning.

His ability to grasp complex equipment and processes played a crucial role in his rapid advancement.

Career Growth

In January of 2024, Johnny assumed the role of Maintenance Manager for both Ft. Worth and Cedar Hill locations. He is passionate about finding innovative ways to improve efficiency and productivity. By working closely with his team, Johnny has implemented various initiatives to streamline processes and reduce downtime.

In his role, he oversees and facilitates maintenance projects for both plants, encompassing both preventative and reactionary measures. With a team of ten direct reports distributed across the two locations, Johnny manages a diverse range of equipment, including OTR maintenance, facility maintenance, press brakes, CNC plasma, overhead cranes, yard trucks, camber machines, and robotic coper machines.

The organization’s commitment to fostering employee growth and providing new opportunities has fueled Johnny’s passion for his work and his aspirations for the future. “At some point in my career I’d like to become a Director that oversees the maintenance initiatives of all of our facilities.”

When not focused on his professional endeavors, Johnny enjoys spending quality time with his family and exploring the outdoors. His hobbies include hiking and being in nature, providing him with a much-needed balance to his busy work life.
